다람골 Daramgol Seoknam Main Branch — The season for warm acorn jelly rice soup is here

Donnattang · Visited 2026-10-07

#1 Along the market street

Before lunchtime, I visit an acorn-jelly restaurant on a market street. The owner is very kind. The jelly comes from a workshop run by the owner’s nephew near Seobu Women’s Community Center Station. This is where my feet take me when the weather turns cold.

#2 Warm acorn jelly rice soup

One warm acorn jelly rice soup, one order of buckwheat crepe rolls, and large dumplings split between meat and kimchi. Warm acorn jelly rice soup is what I think of when it gets cold. A dish I treasure. Acorn jelly sits in hot broth, with a bowl of rice alongside.

#3 The jelly

The jelly is something else. Springy, nutty, and slippery enough to slide right down. I scoop it up and slurp. When I lift my head, my face says it all.

#4 Broth, then rice

What more is there to say about the broth? Anchovy-based and refreshing. The kind of broth that makes me want a drink. Now I add the rice and eat it with the jelly. Broth-soaked rice and springy jelly arrive in the same spoonful. That is a lovely moment.

#5 Crepe rolls and dumplings

The buckwheat crepe rolls have a kimchi-dumpling-style filling. Delicious kimchi rolls. The large dumplings are mildly seasoned and packed with a meat-based filling; the kimchi ones contain meat too. Full of juices. The dumplings are lovely as well.

#6 An empty bowl

Spoonful after spoonful, and it is over in no time. One bowl, all gone. A glass of water to finish. Nothing left to wish for. The season for warm acorn jelly rice soup is here.

A word for visitors from abroad

Warm acorn jelly rice soup comes with hot broth; cold acorn jelly rice soup comes with cold broth. When it gets chilly, I choose the warm version. A bowl of rice comes with it: add it to the broth and eat it with the jelly. Acorn jelly is a jelly-like food made from acorn starch.

No festivals or famous sights today either — for me, a meal like this is a trip in itself.
